Returning from Brussels, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu
made 6 statements with one concerning the normalization with Armenia.
According to Hurriyet, speaking of Armenia-Turkey relations, Turkish
FM said, "Implementation of Armenia-Turkey Protocols is a process that
should be considered exceptionally from positive perspective. No-one
is interested in negative developments or recurrence of the situation
before the Protocols’ signing. Implementation of the Protocols and
establishment of peace in the region would be a positive scenario."
According to him, the solution to the issue was prolonged for 17
years. "It is not a concordant policy. We wish the whole Caucasus to
be a stable and peaceful region," the Davutoglu pointed out.
He underlined that presently the Armenia-Turkey border opening (closed
for 20 years) is in process. "It will be good to show goodwill to
another issue, particularly considering the fact that Minsk Group
already achieved significant progress. We all reached a certain point
and meetings in Athens were also fruitful," Turkish FM emphasized,
adding that Armenia-Turkey relations are conditioned not by time
factor but prospects. "Turkey and Armenia should consider each others’
political stances," he stated, outlining that his country cannot
leave regions’ future to lobbyists. "These issues should be tackled
by the leaders. Either Sargsyan, Gul or Erdogan are guided by these
principles," Davutoglu concluded.
