Agriculture Ministry Food Security and Veterinary State Inspectorate
officials are conducting food security checking and monitoring
in Yerevan food markets December 14-30, the head of inspectorate
information department Susanna Minasyan told Panorama.am.

She reminded that in accordance with the new law on conducting
inspections in food shops and markets, the inspectorate can’t fine
infringers.

"We are just conducting monitoring and protocol the infringements and
will report on these to the PM in January. Anyway, there is vigilance
in markets, I can state," S. Minasyan said.

Note that previously the head of the inspectorate Grisha Bagyan
told Panorama.am that the risk is greater especially at the New
Year threshold since home-made goods may appear in markets, which is
not secure.

As to the pork thigh – favourite of the Armenians on New Year table
– it is imported from Brazil and Canada. Local products are also in
great demand.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
