YEREVAN, December 29. /ARKA/. On Monday, Arthur Javadyan, chairman
of the Central Bank of Armenia, summarizing the results of 2009,
said the country would end this year with 5.5% inflation.

"Growth in crediting the economy, comparison of the upper inflation
benchmark and the achievement of the set goal give us ground for
saying that the central bank’s policy of spurring the economy can be
viewed as successful," he said.

According to statistical reports, 3.1% inflation was recorded in
Armenia in Jan-Nov 2009, compared with the same period a year earlier.

Consumer prices rose 4.5% in November, compared with December 2008,
and 1.2%, compared with October 2009.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
