Tigran Sargsyan: Next year we will manage to make urgent problems of
our statehood recede
YEREVAN, DECEMBER 30, NOYAN TAPAN. The press service of the Armenian
government on December 30 issued the congratulatory speech of Prime
Minister Tigran Sargsyan on the occasion of the New Year and
Christmas.
Below is the full text of the speech:
"Dear Fellow Countrymen.
The year 2009 was full of ordeals and difficulties for our state.
Under conditions of the global crisis we have overcome together most
serious economic, financial and social challenges. The large-scale
anti-crisis measures initiated by the government have mitigated the
consequences of the global economic crisis for thousands of families.
In 2009 we raised pensions by 16% and salaries by 11%, and there was a
growth in salaries both in the state and private sectors. Thousands of
jobs were created thanks to efforts of the anti-crisis operative
staff. We carried out considerable construction work in the earthquake
zone and we will continue this work in 2010-2011. 415 km of roads were
built. 300 km of water pipes were laid in the irrigation system, and
another 500 km will be constructed in 2010.
The construction of the new thermal power plant in Yerevan is coming
to the end. Construction work of the new unit of the nuclear power
plant has entered a visible stage. In several sectors, we managed to
replace the import with domestic production. The achievements in
information technology, agriculture, and assistance to small and
medium enterprises are obvious. In 2009, significant events took place
in the fields of culture and sport. I value highly the fact that the
society responds positively to the in-depth reforms we are effecting.
However, we should not forget that there is still much to be done. The
government is entering the year 2010 with more experience and
considerable financial and economic reserves. I am sure that we will
manage together to overcome any challenge and make the urgent problems
of our statehood recede next year.
Dear Fellow Countrymen.
We are entering a new year, and I wish peace to all of us, an
atmosphere of justice and mutual trust to our country, and love and
solidarity to our homes. God save you all!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"
