BURSA: CITY OF DEFEAT

The Turkish city of Bursa will be recorded in the history of
the Armenian sport in black characters. If the Armenian National
football team would have lost the match with the Turkish national team
everywhere, the defeat of the Armenian National chess team in Bursa
was quite unexpected and was perhaps determined by the place where
the tournament is taking place. The Armenian National chess team,
which has won the last two Olympiads of chess, arrived only the fifth
in the World Chess Championship in Bursa.
It would be wrong to think that the New Year which Armenians like
to celebrate abundantly was the reason of the defeat. The chess
players of our national team are professionals and they know how to
prepare for a competition. However, the results our national team
has always showed, prove that. Apparently, our men were repressed
by Bursa itself. Perhaps, the head of the Armenian Chess Federation
Serge Sargsyan had to personally be engaged in the psychological
preparation of the players. If you remember, during the football
match between the Armenian and Turkish national teams in Bursa, Serge
Sargsyan was so much confident that he was happier than Gul when the
Turkish footballers scored. Serge Sargsyan’s experience would have
helped the best our chess players to avoid psychological repression.
