Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Yerevan
was previously planned, said Lavrov himself in a joint press conference
with RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian today, responding
to recent news in Azerbaijani and Turkish media which stated that
the Russian FM’s visit was connected to Turkish Prime Minister Recep
Tayyip Erdogan’s concurrent visit to Moscow.

"I arranged for my Yerevan visit with my colleague one-and-a-half
month’s ago, while Turkey’s prime minister expressed a wish to visit
Moscow only a few days ago," said Lavrov.

Nalbandian similarly denied the connection between the two visits
(Lavrov in Yerevan, Erdogan in Moscow), adding that an agreement was
made for Lavrov’s visit in Athens in December 2009.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
