Heritage Party parliamentary faction member Larisa Alaverdyan, during
a press conference today, that Armenia’s government still has the
misunderstanding that "it’s possible to govern the country with such
methods as coercion, oppression, and in some cases, intimidation."
According to Alaverdyan, in order to overcome the situation that’s been
created, the country’s acting leadership must refrain from traditions
established in the past. In the MP’s opinion, Serzh Sargsyan feels
that it might be dangerous, if attempts at democracy are made, since
it will then become unable to govern the country.
Referring as well to the judicial system, Alaverdyan said that turning
the court into a puppet must come to an end. "That country where there
is’t a judicial system, it doesn’t exist, or is oppressed also puts
its economic development at risk," said the parliamentarian.
Turning her attention to the subject of freedom of speech, Alaverdyan
said that, in Armenia, that’s easily established. All those who allow
themselves the intolerable have patrons, said the MP. "We have an
issue of newly created customs where doing anything to get ahead
becomes exemplary or serves as an example, this is the issue, that
is sponsored," added Alaverdyan.
