ARMENIAN GDP FALLS 14.4% IN 2009

YEREVAN, JANUARY 25, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenian GDP fell by 14.4% in 2009
as compared to 2008 and amounted to 3 trillion 165 billion 538 million
drams. The index-deflator of GDP made 1.5%.
According to the RA National Statistical Service, industrial production
in Armenia fell by 7.8% in 2009 on 2008 and amounted to 663bn 921.1m
drams.
Gross agricultural output fell by 0.1% to 555bn 698.1m drams,
construction volumes declined by 36.4% to 575bn 709.8m drams.
Retail trade grew by 1% to 1 trillion 75bn 73.9m drams, services grew
by 1.3% to 768bn 910.3m drams.
Armenia’s foreign trade declined by 27% in 2009 compared to the
previous year and made bn 1.9m, with exports falling by 34% to 7.8m
and imports declining by 25.3% to bn 304.1m.
Consumer prices rose by 3.4%, industrial production prices by 7.1%
in Armenia last year.
The number of officially registered unemployed people grew by 13.1%
in 2009 on 2008 and made 84.5 thousand.
The average monthly nominal salary made 101,958 drams in 2009 (9.8%
growth as compared with 2008), including the average salary of 84,845
drams in the state sector (15.5% growth) and the average salary of
126,407 drams in the non-state sector (5.3% growth).
The average exchange rate of one dollar made 363.28 drams in 2009.
