HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDER’S OFFICE OF ARMENIA DENIES AZERBAIJANI OMBUDSMAN’S STATEMENT

ArmInfo. The Office of Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan has
denied the false statement of the Azerbaijani party, which was made
by Azerbaijani Human Rights Defender Elmira Suleymanova.
To note, at today’s meeting with journalists Suleymanova said that the
information on Nagorno-Karabakh’s membership in the European Ombudsman
Institute (EOI) is false. She added that on February 4 the Azerbaijani
party is going to present a package of documents at the session of
the EOI Board to dispute the legitimacy of the Ombudsman Institute
in the NKR. In this connection, the press-service of the Office of
Armenian Ombudsman told ArmInfo that the decision on institutional
membership of the NKR ombudsman in EOI was taken on 31 Aug 2009. On 5
October EOI held an enlarged annual meeting in Florence, Italy, where
Armen Haroutyunyan was elected member of EOI Board. NKR Ombudsman
Yuri Hayrapetyan also participated in the meeting, as well as in the
election to the EOI Board.
