Yerevan (Yerkir) – Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn
Jagland held out hope for the normalization of Armenian-Turkish ties,
CNN Turk reported.

"The process may need time but the very first step is done," Jagland
said at his visit to Ankara.

The European official hailed Turkey’s efforts to set smooth ties with
regional neighbors. Regarding the Armenian-Turkish ties Jagland said:
"I can’t tell anything about the aftermaths. I don’t know whether
the both Parliaments will ratify the protocols. There are political
obstacles. But the very first step is done and I’m sure that’s not
the last one. The process may last 5-10 or even 20 years, but Armenia
and Turkey are neighbors."

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
