South Caucasus Security Issues Discussed in New York

A discussion was held on February 11 in New York entitled
`Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Armenia and Turkey:
Security and Cooperation Perspectives in the Region,’ jointly
organized by the Fletcher Club of New York and The New Century
Foundation, reads a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.
Among present in the discussion were international law and
international relations specialists, representatives of New York
business and diplomatic circles with Deputy Chief of Staff of RA
President Vigen Sargsyan and Ambassador Karen Nazaryan, Armenia’s
Permanent Representative at the United Nations, representing the
Armenian delegates.
Referring to regional challenges, the Armenian delegates spoke about
Armenia’s stance on the normalization process with Turkey, saying
that, along with Armenia, the international community attaches
importance to the process and expects that the Armenia-Turkey
Protocols will be ratified and the provisions envisioned by these
documents implemented.
The Armenian delegates also spoke about the RA Constitutional Court’s
ruling, reaffirming Armenia’s constructive attitude in the matter and
highlighting that it was important that the Turkish side implements
its international commitments ,which, in turn, would bring about a
favorable atmosphere for cooperation in the region.
Vigen Sargsyan and Karen Nazaryan also spoke about Armenia’s attitude
towards the current stage of the Nagorno-Karabakh peaceful settlement
process.
