PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN PROPOSED WAYS OF SETTLEMENT OF NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT TO AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT

Almaty. February 16. Kazakhstan Today – The President of Kazakhstan,
Nursultan Nazarbayev, has proposed ways of settlement of the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev,
the agency reports citing the interstate broadcasting company Mir.
According to the broadcasting company, the OSCE chairman and the
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Kanat Saudabaev, met the
President of Azerbaijan, I. Aliev, on February 15 during his visit to
Baku and transferred him the offers from the President of Kazakhstan,
N. Nazarbayev on how to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
As informed earlier, K. Saudabaev declared, following the results of
negotiations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Elmar
Mamedyarov, that Astana, being the OSCE chairman, hopes that 2010 will
become critical for the course of settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict if the parties adhere to their arrangements.
"We use all our possibilities for resolution of the conflict, the
last arrangements in Athens and the meeting of the Presidents of
Azerbaijan and Armenia in Sochi give us optimism," K. Saudabaev said.
"It is my first visit as the OSCE chairman. I thank Azerbaijan for
support to the presidency of Kazakhstan."
According to K. Saudabaev, one of the important goals of the visit –
to see all spectrum of problems of the Nagorno-Karabakh. "It is a
priority for Kazakhstan as the OSCE chairman. The President of the
country, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has an interest in resolving this
conflict. We know the historical background and use all our resources
to resolve the conflict," he underlined.
