Nizami Jafarov "The negotiations on Karabakh conflict cannot reach
a deadlock for Azerbaijan.
If Armenia’s position does not change, it will be senseless to speak
of any Madrid or other principles", said MP Nizami Jafarov commenting
on possible implications of Armenia’s disavowal of the renewed Madrid
principles that are acceptable for Azerbaijan.
"Anyway, the negotiations on Karabakh conflict cannot reach a
deadlock for Azerbaijan. Our lands are occupied which is fixed in
most international documents, including UN resolutions. This must be
an initial basis for any protocols and negotiations.
The questions like ‘who has occupied our lands?’, ‘how they did it?’,
and ‘which forces are backing them’ are just secondary. Sometimes,
when discussing these issues, we pass to more insignificant moments
and distance from the bases of the conflict. I think the negotiations
on Karabakh can be discussed in terms of any principles under the main
condition of return of the occupied Azerbaijani lands. Only after that
will it be possible to discuss the Karabakh status in Azerbaijan",
the deputy said.
"Unfortunately, every time during meetings the negations on Karabakh
issue start from zero. This occurs by Armenia’s fault that creates
different obstacles every time. If Armenia’s position on this issue
does not change, it will be senseless to speak of Madrid or other
principles", Jafarov said.
