RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR TO MOZAMBIQUE TO BE APPOINTED NEW RUSSIAN CO-CHAIR OF OSCE MINSK GROUP

ArmInfo. Russian diplomat Igor Popov occupying the position of
the Russian Ambassador to Mozambique since 2005 will replace Yuri
Merzlyakov on the position of the Russian Co- chair of the OSCE Minsk
Group, a reliable diplomatic source told ArmInfo.

Estonian mass media report that Yuri Merzlyakov will be appointed
Russian Ambassador to Estonia.

Igor V. Popov (1954) graduated from MGIMO in 1976. He has been working
in the Foreign Ministry structure since 1981. He occupied various
diplomatic positions at the central staff of the Foreign Ministry and
in abroad. In 2000 he was appointed Deputy Director of the CIS First
Department. Since 2005 he has been Russian Ambassador to Mozanbique.

Igor Popov is Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the 2nd
class. He knows English and Portuguese.
