YEREVAN, February 24, /ARKA/. The volume of renewable electrical power
produced in Armenia more than doubled last year to 300 million KWh,
a deputy energy and natural resources minister Areg Galstian told
the parliament today.

He said the government-designed plan to boost renewable energy
is supported by Armenia’s international partners, particularly,
by German KfW bank that provides financing for such projects.

Last year Armenia’s nuclear power plant produced almost 2.5 billion
KWh of power, by 1.3% more than in 2008. The volume of electrical
power produced by thermal power plants dropped last year by 38.4%
if compared to the preceding year, to 1.1 billion KWh.

Hydropower plants produced a little over 2 billion KWH power, by 12.4%
more than in 2008. Armenia’s sole windmill produced 4.3 million KWh
power, by 2.3 times more than in 2008.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
