/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The 150th birth anniversary of painter Vardges
Surenyants, the founder of the historical genre in Armenian art, is
marked in Armenia on February 27.

Vardges Surenyants, the famous Armenian artist, translator and art
critic was born on February 27 in 1860 to a family of priest in the
town of Akhaltsikh. He studied at Moscow Lazarian Seminary, Munich
Academy of fine Arts. He also studied Armenian writing art and
miniature painting at the Library of Congregation of Mkhitarians in
Venice. He translated Shakespeare, Goethe and Haines.
