Armenia’s ruling parties do not expect much from the rally the Armenian
National Congress (ANC) is holding today.
Talking to NEWS.am, Hovhannes Sahakyan of the Republican Party of
Armenia (RPA) stated that nothing will politically change in Armenia
after the rally, as no preconditions are available in the country.
"The Armenian authorities are implementing a balanced foreign and
domestic policy and are ready to cooperate with all the political
forces. So, except for spring, no other prerequisites for the
Opposition are available," Sahakyan said.
Aram Safaryan, Secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PPA),
shares this opinion. He has no expectations from the rally.
The parliamentary Opposition, too, shares the ruling parties’ opinion.
Ruzan Arakelyan, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation
(Dashnaktsutyun), said that the rallies in the country will not
influence the situation in the country, as it does not depend on
rallies or other mass actions.
Stepan Sasfaryan, Head of the Heritage faction, said that "everything
depends on what they are going to present at the rally. If it is
their 100-step economic program, as they promised, it will have
no political consequences. If they speak of a change of power and
present any effective steps, it may stir up the opposition electorate,"
Safaryan said.
The ANC is holding a rally in Yerevan at 5:00 p.m.
