"The situation is now more complicated, because as you know Turkey
wants resolution on Karabakh as well, secondly the American Congress’
H. Res. 252 has now even more complicated the situation," AK Party
Deputy Chairman of External Affairs Suat Kiniklioglu told NEWS.am
correspondent in Yerevan.
"The American side is working on a roadmap to be announced between
Azerbaijan and Armenia, and we hope it will become a reality. If it
does become a reality, I am sure the roadmap will have the backing of
President Sargsyan and President Aliyev, I think will enable us to move
forward on Turkey’s side. But as I said, it is now more complicated,
as the resolution has angered many Turks in Turkey. We do not believe
that foreign parliaments should be judging on other people’s history,"
he added.
Asked about Turkey’s further steps if U.S. Congress passes the
resolution, Kiniklioglu assured that it will more impact Turkey-U.S.
relations. "Congress should not have anything to do with it. I do
not think they will pass it. But if they pass it, they will be major
disruption between Turkey and U.S., not Turkey and Armenia. It will be
problems between Turkey and the United States. My Prime Minister has
openly declared that we will not tolerate U.S. parliament moves any
step further and I think the Americans understand it. If they do it,
it will be a mistake on their side because Turkey and U.S. cooperate
on many issues: Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, anti-terrorism, Middle
East peace process. I do not think they can, but if they would it
will be major conflict between Turkey and US. ," he stressed.
Turkish MP also commented on possible progress in Armenia-Turkey
relations, saying that if resolution passes "Armenia-Turkey
normalization will be dead."
"There is no way, Turkey is going to accept the normalization process
and U.S. Congress that does not know the place on the map where Armenia
is, it’s going to approve a bill. I do not think that Congress should
be a judge in it. Your parliament passes resolutions on India’s past
or Pakistan’s parliament? In our parliaments there are now members
who want to pass a resolution about the Indians and we say no.
Because in principal, parliament, politicians they do not have the
capacity and expertise to pass resolutions on other people’s history.
I cannot judge on India’s past. I know American congressmen very well,
they are the last persons who should be judging on anyone’s history,"
he concluded.
