EDWARD NALBANDIAN: AZERI SIDE RATHER PRESENTS EXCEPTIONS THAN ACCEPTS NAGORNO KARABAKH SETTLEMENT MADRID PRINCIPLES

YEREVAN, MARCH 18, NOYAN TAPAN. RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian
assesses as rather constructive his meeting with OSCE Minsk Group
Co-chairs held the day before in Paris. He said at a March 18 press
conference that the discussions continued in the same spirit as in
the past two years, on the basis of Madrid proposals.

In connection with Azerbaijan’s position on Madrid proposals
E. Nalbandian said that for a long time Azerbaijan had been refusing
to accept as a basis for negotiations the Madrid Principles introduced
to the sides in 2007 November. "If now they accept it as a basis we
should only welcome it. However they say that they accept it only
with some exceptions. When you hear their last public statements of
the past days you understand that they rather present exceptions, for
instance, 10 exceptions, and accept 1 or 2 issues, mainly concerning
the conflict consequences. At that, even what they accept they
present it in a way that indeed they misrepresent the essence of
the negotiations process and discussions with the OSCE Minsk Group
Co-chairs," E. Nalbandian said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
