Armenian president to visit Syria next week

DAMASCUS March 18

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan is to visit Syria on March 22-23 at
an invitation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the official SANA
news agency reported Thursday.

Armenian Ambassador to Damascus Arshak Poladyan said Wednesday that
President Sargsyan’s first visit to Syria is historic and plays an
important role in deepening the good relations between the two
countries, according to the report.

"We have direct political dialogue with Syria on all levels and Syria
has expressed, in many occasions, its readiness to help normalizing
relations between Armenia and Turkey and Azerbaijan," the report
quoted the ambassador as saying.

The ambassador also indicated that several agreements will be inked
during Sargsyan’s visit and a Syrian-Armenian joint cultural show will
be staged at al-Assad House for Culture and Art in Damascus.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
