The restoration of Tashoron church, located in Cavusoglu, Province of
Malatya will be held as a result of Mosque Building and Preservation
Foundation appeal to Turkish Ministry of Culture.

Tashoron church is located in Cavusoglu neighborhood, the birthplace of
"Agos" daily Chief Editor Hrant Dink, assassinated near his Istanbul
office in 2007. He visited the 18th century church back in 2002 and
voiced the necessity of its restoration.

Mosque Foundations’ President Latif Yildirim informed that the decision
on was made last year and discussed also with Christian community of
Malatya, as all are eligible of performing their religious ceremonies,
Turkish Radikal informs.

Yildirim stated that the church, built under the reign of the Ottoman
Empire almost three centuries ago showed tolerant and libertarian
culture in that period. Back then people were living all together,
practicing their religious beliefs freely. This happens and should
happen today as well, he concluded.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
