ArmInfo. The data about economic growth of Armenia over Robert
Kocharyan’s presidential term are exaggerated, said Hrant Bagratyan,
former prime minister of Armenia, member of Armenian National Congress,
said at today’s press-conference, commenting on Kocharyan’s recent
interview with Mediamax news agency, in which the second president
of Armenia said that over his term in office Armenia’s foreign debt
against GDP declined from 46% to 13%.
"At that time the USD/AMD exchange rate fell from 580 to 300 AMD/
1USD. Even if no measures are taken, in case of such devaluation of
US dollar, we get 23 by dividing 46 by 2",- said Bagratyan.
As regards the construction also mentioned by Kocharyan, Bagratyan said
that by its volume it did not differ so much from the early 1990s. The
only difference was that at that time houses were being built in the
disaster zone, and not elite buildings in the center of Yerevan.
"I blame Kocharyan, the Armenian government and international financial
organizations: one should not carry out elite construction worth 3
bln USD in the center of Yerevan, while the demand is lacking!" –
concluded Bagratyan.
