THE SECRETARY OF THE GLOBAL CHRISTIAN FORUM VISITS HIS HOLINESS ARAM I
On Monday 22 March Mr. Huibert van Beek, the Secretary of the Global
Christian Forum (GCF) and Rev. Dr. Gaby Hachem, Director of the Programme
Faith and Unity of the Middle East Council of Churches, met with His
Holiness Aram I and Bishop Nareg Alemezian.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the participation of the Churches
in the Middle East in the GCF. The Forum grew out of conversations within
the WCC while His Holiness was the Moderator. Its aim is to provide an open
space for all churches to respond to common challenges based on mutual
respect. The World Council of Churches, the Roman Catholic Church and some
Orthodox Churches are already members of the Forum.
In view of new ecumenical realities in the region and in the world, His
Holiness encouraged Mr. Van Beek to invite churches in the Middle East to
join the Global Christian Forum.
