A Turkish foundation for the construction and renovation of mosques
has applied to Turkey’s Culture Ministry to restore the Armenian
Tashoron Church in the neighborhood that is known as the birthplace of
Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink.

According to Latif Yildirim, head of the Tepebasi Mosque Construction
and Preservation Society, the decision to undertake the renovation was
made in 2009. The foundation also asked for the opinions of
non-governmental organizations and of the non-Muslim public in the
Cavusoglu neighborhood of Malatya, Hurriyet Daily News reports. The
church will be re-opened first under the supervision of the Sivas
Protection Committee and then the renovation costs will be determined.
Then we will start the operations. The renovation will also be
financially supported by Malatya Municipality.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
