"The Washington meeting was just an interim meeting, which was of
strategic importance for the parties," ex-Foreign Minister of the
Nagorno Karabakh Republic Arman Melikyan told a press conference today,
referring to the Sargsyan-Erdogan meeting in Washington.

"The strategic objectives of the parties are very different. In case
of Armenia, it’s the advancement of the Armenian-Turkish relations,
while the objectives of Turkey and the United States are more global,"
Arman Melikyan said.

"How will this change the situation? I think it will become clear in
the near future. New developments can be expected already in May. I
suppose that the pace of normalization of the Armenian Turkish
relations may considerably slow down and new elements will need to
be implemented," he said.

By saying new elements Arman Melikyan means new role players may
emerge and a new agenda may be shaped in case the US fails to advance
the process. He does not rule out that Russia and Iran could become
more active.

Arman Melikyan is assured that no progress should be expected in the
Armenian Turkish reconciliation process by April 24.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
