Armenia Suspends Establishment Of Diplomatic Relations With Turkey

ARMENIA SUSPENDS ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH TURKEY

President Serge Sargsian of Armenia has suspended the procedure of
ratification of the protocols on establishing diplomatic relations
with Turkey in the Armenian Parliament. He feels that Ankara delays
the normalization of relations between the two countries by setting
forth ever more conditions. But Yerevan is not pulling out of the
settlement process, but has only suspended it. The protocols on
establishing diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey were
signed last autumn, but failed to have been ratified by the two
countries’ parliaments, specifically because of Ankara’s position on
Nagorno-Karabakh and the problem of the recognition of the genocide
of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
