DEPUTY OF NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF FRANCE TOUCHES UPON PROBLEMS OF ARMENIANS OF JAVAHKH

ArmInfo. Within the frames of his visit to Georgia on 13-16 April
2010 Deputy of National Assembly of France touched upon problems of
violation of the rights Armenians of Javahkh over the meetings with
members of Georgian parliament and government.He said, in particular,
that Georgian authorities do not resolve the problems of Armenians
of Javahkh in line with European democratic standards for protection
of ethnic minorities.

As "Yerkir"union of public organizations on repatriation, during
his meetings Mr.Blum paid special attention to the case of Vahagn
Chakhalyan, a political activist from Javahkh sentenced by Georgian
authorities for 10 years because of the fabricated accusations. He
said that when persecuting the Javahkhi activist Georgian authorities
were guided by the political motives. Georgian officials did not
accept the arguments of the French parliamentarian and were trying
to assure him that Vahagn Chakhalyan is an which got his ‘due penalty’.

Having presented the results of discussions of the problem of Javahkh
with Georgian top officials, Mr.Blum assured "Yerkir"union that he
will continue the efforts on protection of the rights of Armenians of
Javahkh, in particular, he will make efforts on discussion of Vahagn
Chakhalyan’s case at PACE session on 26-30 April 2010.
