On April 28 the Armenian Genocide issue was included in the Israeli
parliament agenda.

Haim Oron, the leader of the left-wing opposition Meretz party and
the initiator of the bill, presented the issue for about 15 minutes
followed by a hot discussion, Artak Grigoryan, specialist in Israeli
studies told Tert.am.

The bill was included in the Knesset agenda by a 12 "for" and 8
"against" votes provided that one of its standing committees will
discuss the resolution and determine whether it should be put to a
full parliament vote.

The Israeli authorities shall decide on the issue within the coming
two weeks.

As it was in previous times this year too the Israeli government drew
a negative conclusion over the issue with many MP voting against it.

However the bill was included in the agenda.

Experts say this is the third consecutive year the Armenian Genocide
is brought on the Knesset agenda – but yet to no avail.

What makes this year’s initiative special is that the issue was
discussed in the Knesset longer than ever and the pro-Armenian speeches
were much more compared with previous years.

"To be realistic, there can hardly be any development in this
direction as the political atmosphere is not favorable for it,"
said Artak Grigoryan while talking to Tert.am

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
