On April 27 Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian stated that his country
has the potential to export electricity to Turkey and from there
to Middle East countries. He said that his country had taken steps
to normalise relations with Turkey but the latter had undermined
the process.
Despite this diverge Armenia’s Energy Ministry is conducting
negotiations with its Turkish counterpart. Armenia is ready to
cooperate with neighbouring countries on electricity supply despite
their different political stands.
Armenia’s Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisian
highlighted that Turkey is a big consumer of electricity and has a
deficit of it. He also said that Armenia is ready to start exporting
electricity to Turkey immediately and the only problem which exists
is political.
Some time ago a Turkish company signed an agreement to import Armenian
electricity but this has not happened as of yet.
