The European Union should not be expected to do marvels about the
Nagorno Karabakh conflict, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European
Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule said while addressing the European
parliament and elaborating on his visits to Ukraine and South Caucasus.
"We are doing our best about the Karabakh conflict … Do not expect
us to do marvels. Wait for things to unfold. Our role will gradually
become more active and tangible," Turkish abhaber.tr news web site
quotes Fule as saying in response to a Czech MP’s question over what
the EU could do about the Nagorno Karabakh and the Armenia-Turkey
normalization.
Evgeni Krilov, an MP of the European parliament and representative
of Socialist Party, said that EU’s stance over the Nagorno-Karabakh
issue is not that clear.
"Relations with the South Caucasus should at best be developed. We
should by any means join the process of establishing stability
and democracy in the region … EU’s approach towards the Karabakh
issue is not that clear. Catherine Ashton [EU Foreign Policy Chief]
should be more interested in the issue. Making statements about the
Armenia-Turkey relations is not enough. We should be more interested
in the Karabakh issue," said Krilov.
