`The liberation of Shushi changed the mentality of our people’
Shushi which is our famous fortress is 10km south from Stepanakert,
the capital city of Artsakh Republic. It occupies 600 sq. km, but in
1992 on May 9 the liberation of Shushi which was being used by the
enemy as a military base was a turning point in Artshakh war.
`The liberation of Shushi changed the mentality of our people; we
turned into winner people from weeping people, we became people who
were gaining and not losing. In that concern Shushi is a symbol. Today
as well that victory has not lost its historical significance, and
today as well we have a lot of work to do,’ said political scientist
Alexander Manasyan in the conversation with Aysor.am.
According to the professor the first work to undertake is the
resumption of Shushi as a cultural capital city of all the Armenians
as it was before. A. Manasyan mentioned that the whole Armenian nation
should gather around that idea and reestablish one of its symbols, the
free and proud Shushi.
On 2007 was created the new plan of the city. It is planned to make
Shushi the cultural center of Artsakh till 2020.
The money gathered by the telethon organized by the `Hayastan’
all-Armenian fund will be almost totally given to the reconstruction
of Shushi city.
The Fund cooperates with the NKR government to decide the priority of
the plans to be implemented in Shushi. The fund `Revival of Shushi’
has implemented the project of bringing water to Shushi, and the
all-Armenian fund should take up the problem of inner net of the city
which will cost 2-2.5mln. dollars.
There are many problems in Shushi starting with the construction of
the roofs of the houses, the construction of schools and roads. All
these works will be implemented during the upcoming years.
