OSCE Minsk Group must remain sole mediator of Karabakh problem –
Armenian officials
YEREVAN May 14
Changing the format of the Nagorno- Karabakh settlement process could
hurt the process, Hovik Abrahamyan said, Armenian Parliamentary
Speaker.
"The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be resolved by the OSCE
(Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) Minsk Group,
and any other involvement could hamper and hurt the process,"
Abrahamyan said at a meeting with Turkish representative Mevlut
Cavusoglu, who is currently the President of the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Abrahamyan said that the status of Nagorno-Karabakh and the security
of its people are important for Armenia, the Armenian parliament’s
press office told Interfax.
The initiative to set up a PACE sub-commission on Nagorno-Karabakh was
not my idea, and even if it does form such a sub-commission, this will
not replace the OSCE Minsk Group, Cavusoglu said.
Armenia and Turkey must establish diplomatic relations without pre-
conditions, the Armenian parliamentary speaker said.
"Establishing Armenian-Turkish relations is a complicated process.
And although this process has been put on hold, Armenia is
nevertheless willing to go back to it, if effective steps are seen on
the part of Turkey and protocols are ratified," Abrahamyan said.
