The opposition Heritage party is concerned that none of its members
are involved in district electoral committees following a recent
voting by the Central Election Commission.
Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Armen Martirosyan of the
Heritage party faction in parliament said such situation results
from a joint deal between the ruling authorities and the opposition
Armenian National Congress (ANC).
“The struggle against Heritage proved successful this time too. All
the political forces apart from Heritage are represented in the
district electoral committees,” he said, adding that the ANC had
earlier proposed setting up professional committees.
Martirosyan recalled that their party was against the electoral reforms
when the enactment of the amended Electoral Code was in process.
He said such attempts aim to strip Heritage of control levers.
“It is large-scale work. All possible measures are being taken to
shape a public opinion that Heritage will not have seats in the next
parliament. This is a plotted campaign aimed at stripping heritage
of control levers, ” he said.
Martirosyan added that Heritage continues working with the people,
refusing to use propaganda tools.
“Heritage is an alternative that will be offered to the people. It does
not have its share in the economy. The Heritage members are the only
lawmakers who do not own businesses and are engaged only in politics,”
he added.
