THIRD CONGRESS OF ARMENIAN DIASPORA ON EDUCATION OPENED IN LEBANON

BIFKAYA. – Formal opening of the Third Congress of Armenian Diaspora on
Education took place on August 18 at St Astvatsatsin Church in Bifkaya
city, Lebanon. It was organized by the Armenian Catholicosate Great
House of Cilicia and was devoted to the topic of “Western Armenian
Language Today: Challenges and Goals.”
The congress was run by the Catholicos of Great House of Cilicia
Aram I, Armenian Yerkramas newspaper reports. After the welcoming
participants from Lebanon, Syria, Southern and Northern America,
Europe, Turkey and Middle East, the Catholicos Aram I blessed them
and stated the issues referring the Western Armenian language.
The participants made speeches on “Variety of textbooks on Western
Armenian language grammar and the confusion generated by them,”
which served for the theme of the first session. The second session
was devoted to the “Necessity of the teaching program for the Western
Armenian language at schools of the Diaspora.” The theme of the third
session was the “Necessity of publishing new books and dictionaries
for the Western Armenian language.” The fourth session discussed the
“Necessity of training teachers for the Armenian linguistics.”
