Turkish Speaker says trade relations with Australia improved

Sydney, 13 May: Turkish parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc, who is
currently in Australia on an official visit, met members of Turkish
community in Sydney today (13 May).

Arinc flew from Canberra to Sydney, the third leg of his visit to
Australia.

Parliament Speaker Arinc noted that nearly 150,000 Turkish people were
living in Australia, stating that commercial relations between Turkey
and Australia improved recently. He indicated that Australia supported
Turkey in foreign policy as well.

Replying to a question concerning a monument (on the so-called
Armenian genocide) that was inaugurated in Ryde municipality, Arinc
stressed that there was no genocide in the history of Turkish
nation. “We never accepted genocide and we don’t,” he indicated.

The parliamentary delegation led by Arinc will leave Australia for
Turkey on Saturday [14 May].
