NEW MEMBER OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT

Today many of the deputies were dressed officially, and the journalists
wondered why. It turned out that Robert Kocharyan was to arrive at the
Parliament. At 01:00 p.m. sharp almost all the pro-authority deputies were
in the Parliament hall, when Robert Kocharyan entered. Some of the deputies
stood up. And the occasion was the oath ceremony of Henrik Danielyan who has
been appointed member of the Constitutional Court by decree of Robert
Kocharyan.

Henrik Danielyan mounted the platform and took the oath, `I take the solemn
oath to follow the Constitution, to be impartial, and to carry the name of
the member of CC with pride’. This much. Robert Kocharyan left the hall,
after which many of the deputies did the same.

We asked Henrik Danielyan why he was appointed and he said, `As I am already
65 and I could not work in the Court of Appeal because of the age limit, so
I was appointed here instead of Michael Sevyan who was resigned after he
became 70′.

We also tried to learn the opinion of the newly-appointed member of the CC
about the Cc decision after the 2003 Presidential elections, `I cannot say
if it was the right thing to do or not, as Judges express their opinion only
if they are well aware of all the details of the case’.
