Iran’s special envoy meets Azeri president

Baku, July 14, IRNA

Iranian president’s special envoy on Caspian Sea affairs, Mehdi
Safari here Wednesday met Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.

At the meeting, President Aliyev appreciated messages from Iranian
officials and asked the envoy to convey his warm greetings to
president-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Azeri president also expressed satisfaction over the successful
implementation of economic agreements particularly those pertaining
to energy, road building and also the commissioning of some projects
in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan.

He hoped that during the tenure of Iran’s president-elect, mutual
ties can continue with further success.

Safari, for his part, conveyed President Khatami greetings to
President Aliyev and referred to the successful implementation of
some economic projects between the two countries, including the plan
to construct a road between Astara-Baku, gas transfer plan to
Nakhichevan and power transmission lines in Azerbaijan Republic.

He thanked President Aliyev for his message of felicitation to the
president-elect and submitted Ahmadinejad’s message to the Azeri
president.

The two sides also discussed the latest regional developments and the
situation in Karabakh.

Safari also met prime minister and foreign minister of Azerbaijan
Republic.

He arrived to Baku on Wednesday on a one-day visit to Azerbaijan
capital. During his visit he discussed bilateral relations, regional
issues and legal regime of the Caspian Sea.
