YEREVAN, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) — Armenia can serve as a bridge between the European Union (EU) and Russia, the visiting president of the Dutch Senate said here on Thursday.

Ankie Broekers-Knol, president of the Dutch Senate, expressed the hope at a press meeting following talks with the speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Ara Babloyan, according to a statement on the official website of the Armenian parliament.

"This is really an important year as we mark the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between our nations," Broekers-Knol said.

"I very much hope that in two weeks the agreement on enhanced relations will be signed," she said, referring to the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement expected to be signed between the EU and Armenia on Nov. 24.

Armenia will be the first member of the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union to sign a separate partnership deal with the EU.

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and the Netherlands were established on Jan. 30, 1992.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
