Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has decided to build a presidential palace in the town of Ahlat (Khlat, in Armenian) on the shores of Lake Van, ''News.am'' reports, referring to ''Hürriyet'' newspaper.

At an event devoted to the victory at the Battle of Manzikert, Erdogan noted that Sultan Alp Arslan of the Seljuk Empire had left for the Battle of Manzikert from Ahlat, and therefore he sees a meaning in constructing a huge Seljuk style tent-palace in Ahlat, with a surface area of 1071 square meters, which will symbolize Alp Arslan’s victory at the Battle of Manzikert in 1071, against Byzantium.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
