BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:45 P.M.) – Armenia carried out a large-scale humanitarian mission inside the historical city of Aleppo, today, fulfilling their promise to Syria late last year.
The 83-member group of deminers, doctors, and security personnel made their journey from the Armenian capital of Yerevan to Aleppo on Friday morning.
This large humanitarian group will not only aid the Syrian and Russian forces in clearing mines but also administer much needed medical services to the people of Aleppo.
Aleppo has suffered immensely during the eight-year-long Syrian war, as the ancient city has experienced a great deal of destruction around several neighborhoods.
The Armenian population of Aleppo is primarily concentrated in the Al-Midan and Al-Suleimaniyeh neighborhoods, which were close to the front-lines for several years during the battle for the city.
Many of the Armenian locals not only helped defend their neighborhoods but also served in civil defense groups that helped put out fires and administer medical support to any in need.
