Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan oversaw Saturday’s assembly of a special committee coordinating to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Armenia.

Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, who is also heading the current ‘state of emergency’ in the country, vigorously recommended strategy to fight against the virus. “it was proposed to extend the state of emergency for another 30 days in Armenia, to maintain the current restrictions on movement, public transport, interprovincial movement, regarding whose schedule there will be the decisions of the commandant,” reads the news source who distributed the information about the extended guidelines of the emergency.

The Armenian PM ordered the cabinet to submit a draft decision of the government to prolong the declared ‘state of emergency’ in Armenia, and once the resolution is accepted, a respective special session of the Parliament will enforce it by the Constitution.

Pashinyan already stated that the situation could last much longer than initially estimated. However, Article 5 conditions that the operative period of the ‘state of emergency’ declared cannot surpass 30 days in Armenia, although in some areas it can reach 60 days.

The number of coronavirus cases in Armenia stands at 966.
