Residents of Jermuk town fighting against Amulsar gold mining are holding a big car march on August 20 toward capital Yerevan. As the organizers of the march said in a statement, they will drive to Yerevan to make their voice heard and present demands to those responsible for decision making.

The car march is expected to arrive in Yerevan at 16.00 where they will hold the protest near the Opera and Ballet House in Liberty square. The organizers also call on all active citizens to join the peaceful action aimed ‘saving Amulsar.’

“It is ridiculous that after revolution people are still obliged to stand as a human shield to protect their rights, the environment and economic independence of the country against the danger of Amulsar operation,” the statement said in part.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
