SERGE SARGSIAN CONSIDERS ARMENIA’S INVOLVEMENT IN EUROPEAN NEIGHBORHOOD POLICY AS TURNING FOR RA-EU RELATIONS

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN. RA Defence Minister, Secretary of the
National Security Council under RA President, Serge Sargsian received
newly appointed Head of the European Commission’s delegation in Armenia
and Georgia, Per Eklund on December 6. Congratulating the guest on the
occasion of assuming his post, the Minister expressed hope for further
close and efficient cooperation. Considering Armenia’s involvement in
the European Neighborhood Policy as turning for Armenia-EU relations,
the Minister attached importance to adoption of EU-Armenia Actions Plan
on November 14 and acquainted with the functions of the newly created
commission on coordination of activities with European structures
headed by RA President. As Noyan Tapan was informed from RA Defence
Ministry’s Press Service, at the guest’s request the Minister touched
upon reforms being implemented in the armed forces in Armenia, as
well as within the framework of the Individual Partnership Actions
Plan. Speaking about Armenia-NATO relations, Serge Sargsian said that
deepening of cooperation is a necessity and is aimed at resisting the
challenges and these relations are an important element for Armenia’s
national security. Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Per
Eklund said that the European Union has always stressed the necessity
of problem’s peaceful settlement.
