Athens – A crowd estimated to be in the hundreds gathered in front
of the Turkish embassy in Athens on Monday evening to protest the
killing of Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink in Istanbul.
Protestors, most of them ethnic Armenians, chanted anti-Turkish
slogans including ‘the Armenian genocide continues.’
Television pictures showed a strong police presence around the protest.
Dink, 52, was shot dead last week outside the offices of Agos
newspaper. He was a staunch defender of human rights in Turkey and
the rights of the Armenian minority.
A 17-year-old Turkish youth has been detained in connection with
the crime.
