COMMON APPROACHES ON MAJOR ELEMENTS OF PEACE AGREEMENT ON NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT FOUND – US DIPLOMAT
TREND, Azerbaijan
Feb 7 2007
US Ambassador Matthew Bryza, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chair, said
in talks with journalists on February 7th that a scenario of the
Kosovo conflict will not be a precedent for the resolution of the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Trend reports.
Every conflict in the world has a unique character and no parallel
should be carried out between the methods of resolution. Speaking
of chances of settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict this
year, the diplomat noted that the situation was complicated due to
parliamentary elections in Armenia and in this situation when attempts
are taken to promote the negotiation process it is necessary to act
carefully. At the same time he voiced his optimism with respect to
a resolution of the conflict and stressed the necessity for strong
will of the Presidents of the two countries.
Mr. Bryza said that common approaches have been found in major
elements of the agreement and technical parameters are currently under
consideration. He found difficulty in announcing the date of the next
round of talks between the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
