CHAIRMAN OF VIASPHERE TECHOPARK UNDERLINES NECESSITY OF REFORMS IN TELECOMMUNICATION, EXPORT-IMPORT AND EDUCATION

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 14, NOYAN TAPAN. Tony Moroyan, Chairman of the
Organizing Committee of the first Armtech 2007 congress on Armenian
high technologies to be held in San Francisco on July 4-7, Chairman
of Viasphere Technopark (Armenia), co-founder of several private
technoparks and venture funds abroad, considers the current monopolies
in the telecommunication sector as the greatest obstacle to development
of high technologies, particularly IT, in Armenia.
During the February 14 press conference he said that legislative
changes to facilitate the import and export of some equipment will help
develop the sector. Besides, American Armenian businessman attached
importance to rapid implementation of reforms in the education sector,
which will allow to increase the qualification and number of employees
of high-tech sectors. T. Moroyan underlined the importance of bringing
the legislation on intellectual property and trade mark protection into
line with international standards as important legislative changes,
which were made in recent years and promoted the high-tech sector’s
development.
