YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 19, NOYAN TAPAN. The "Democratic Liberal Union of
Armenia" party (DLUA) is ready to alone go to the coming parliamentary
elections, but it considers right the process of enlarging unity of
the political forces.

Seyran Avagian, the DLUA Chairman, the country President’s Advisor
stated about it during the opening ceremony of the regular and 4th
congress of the party taken place at the "Moscow" cinema Great Hall
on February 17. "We express readiness for unification of efforts
with co-thinkers, partners, and do not exclude participation in the
coming parliamentary elections in that way," he said, presenting
the general resolution of the party board. S.Avagian proposed the
congress delegates to start on February 18 "the correct, detailed
discussion of that resolution" and to aware the society about the
final decision. In his words, in the case of necessity the congress
will involve its proposals in the board resolution. At the same time
he mentioned that the party, not being against the alliance idea,
attaches importance to the issue of presenting its possible allies’
joint position at the political agenda of the coming years as well. "We
do not found the alliance to get a mandate," he assured.

People invited from other parties were not present at works of the
first day of the congress. "Responding the Noyan Tapan correspondent’s
question, S.Avagian mentioned during the pre-electoral period
"mutual participation in the congresses from other parties may create
approaches, moods, not corresponding to the reality, and we consider
it right for every party holds a congress inside it." S.Avagian also
stated that the DLUA, functioning from 2001, had 22.5 thousand members
during the 2003 elections. Re-registration was announced during the
post-electoral period of time, and it was not managed to finish it
in villages. According to the last data of the party organization
department, the number of members is about 7 thousand.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
