VARTAN OSKANIAN: "ARMENIA ATTACHES IMPORTANCE TO CLOSE COOPERATION
WITH BELGIUM"

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 23, NOYAN TAPAN. Receiving Charles Ghislain, the
newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium (residence in
Belgium) on February 22, on the occasion of handing copies of the
credentials, RA Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian expressed
satisfaction on the occasion of activization of bilateral contacts
between Armenia and Belgium during the recent period of time. The
Minister mentioned that Armenia attaches importance to establishment
of closer cooperation with Belgium within the framework of the
Armenia-EU Actions Plan, in the way of working out and implementing
concrete programs.

V.Oskanian appreciated the balanced position of Belgium towards issues
of important meaning for Armenia at the UN and other international
organizations.

According to the information submitted to Noyan Tapan by the RA
Foreign Ministry’s Press and Information Department, the interlocutors
also touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement
process. Reference: Charles Ghislain was born in 1951 in
Brussels. Profession: diplomatic and political studies. He worked as
Attache’ at the Embassy of Belgium to Hungary in 1979-1983. He was the
First Secretary, then Advisor of the Embassy of Belgium to U.S. in
1988-1992.

He worked at the Foreign Ministry’s central apparatus in 1992-1995. He
was the Minister-Advisor of the Belgian Representation at the
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in 1995-1999. He
was the Ambassador of Belgium to Algeria in 1999-2001, the Permament
Representative of Belgium to the Council of Europe, Consul General in
2002.
