U.S. SUPPORTS AZERBAIJAN’S TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY, BUT CONSIDERS THAT
ISSUE OF NKR STATUS SHOULD BE SOLVED THROUGH NEGOTIATIONS

YEREVAN, MARCH 16, NOYAN TAPAN. The statement of U.S. Embassy in
Armenia was published in press, which was made in response to the
bewilderment expressed by the Armenian side about the formulation
naming Nagorno Karabakh as "occupied territory" making part of
Azerbaijan in 2006 annual report on Human Rights of U.S. State
Department. As the document mentioned, the policy of U.S. in
connection with U.S. government’s report on human rights and NKR has
not changed: U.S. supports Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and
considers that the issue of Nagorno Karabakh status should be solved
through negotiations. "As an OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairing country, we
diligently work to reach an agreement over the main principles of
settlement soon," the Embassy’s statement read.

As Noyan Tapan was informed by RA Foreign Ministry Spokesperson
Vladimir Karapetian, the Armenian Foreign Ministry has not received
any official answer from U.S. Embassy in connection with the above
mentioned report and has been informed about the statement from
Armenia media.

Earlier V. Karapetian had stated that the Foreign Minister during the
meeting with Acting U.S. Ambassador to RA Anthony Godfrey had
mentioned the above indicated expression included in the report of
State Department asking to be attentive in formulations. Oskanian had
expressed an opinion that the formulation naming Nagorno Karabakh as
"occupied territory" making part of Azerbaijan is the consequence of a
mistake.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
