YEREVAN, MAY 2, NOYAN TAPAN. "Some media not finding any serious
violations related to the elections, try to fill their pages with
ungrounded accusations." Garegin Azarian, Chairman of RA Central
Electoral Commission (CEC), stated at the May 2 press conference in
general positively estimating media publications. He, in particular,
mentioned the publication about fixing RPA poster on the facade of
Kotayk regional administration, giving assurance that this cannot be
considered as violation of requirement of Electoral Code. As G.
Azarian affirmed, the building of regional administration cannot
be considered as building of local self-government body, to which,
according to the Electoral Code, the prohibition of election agitation
extends.
He also said that up to April 28 inclusive CEC has received 24
applications, to which it answered.
G. Azarian also said that he is "pleasantly surprised" at the checking
organized during the holidays, the goal of which was to reveal
agitation posters printed with possible violations of requirements of
Electoral Code. In his words, during its visit to Kentron, Arabkir,
Erebuni and Shengavit communities of Yerevan the Commission revealed
agitation posters of only 10 parties, all of which were made in
correspondence with the requirements of the legislation.
The CEC Chairman also said that no signal has been received from
polling station electoral commissions about posters of political
forces nominated by proportional system for the parliamentary elections
printed with violation of the legislation.
